Postseason Men’s Swimming & Diving Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Oklahoma Baptist has landed in the same spot it started when the preseason poll was released on Dec. 6. The Bison, competing in swimming & diving for first time in program history this season, received all four first-place votes and 24 points in the postseason edition of the NAIA Men’s Swimming & Diving Coaches’ Poll, the national office announced Thursday.
Oklahoma Baptist won a tight race at the NAIA Swimming & Diving National Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla., edging out Fresno Pacific (Calif.) by a total of five points. Eleven different Bison collected All-America honors thanks to their performances at the championships. Nick Schuttinger, who qualified for All-America status in seven events, set a new NAIA meet record with a time of 47.46 in the 100-yard butterfly. As a team, the Bison garnered 32 separate All-America honors.
Two-time defending champion Fresno Pacific, which had been ranked No. 1 in the two previous polls, fell back to No. 2 with 16 points after a second-place team finish at the national championships. The Sunbirds got record-breaking performances from Paul-Bernar Marie-Rose (100-yard freestyle) and from their 400-yard medley and 200-yard medley relay teams.
The rest of the top five reflects the top five finishers from the National Championships. Concordia (Calif.) remained at No. 3 with 12 points, while SCAD Savannah dropped one position to No. 4 with eight points. Illinois Tech makes its first appearance in this season’s rankings at No. 5 with three points.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches from the NAIA Swimming & Diving Coaches Association.
