KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Oklahoma Baptist tallied four first-place votes and 27 points to top the first 2012-13 NAIA Men's Swimming & Diving Coaches' Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. Oklahoma Baptist has finished in first place in two meets this year and won two dual events over NCAA Division II Adams State (Colo.). Additionally, the Bison won the 2011 NAIA Men's Swimming and Diving National Championship in its first year of existence.
The Bison also boast NAIA individual top times in several categories. Sophomore's Anthony Barbar (50-meter freestyle), Daniel Ramirez (100-meter freestyle) and Andrew Nelson (1,000-meter freestyle) and senior Max Abreu (100 and 200-meter butterfly) all hold individual bests in their respective events this season. The Bison hold the top time in the 200 Medley Relay.
Concordia (Calif.) comes in at No. 2 with 17 points. The Eagles return four All-Americans in junior Lucas Spencer and senior's Cody Ditsler, Jose Bahena and Josh Kloppenburg. SCAD Savannah (Ga.) follows at No. 3 collecting 15 points. No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.) and No. 5 Union (Ky.) round out the rankings with 13 and four points, respectively.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches from the NAIA Swimming & Diving Coaches Association. The second poll will be released on Jan. 29.
