SIOUX CITY, Iowa - (Box Score) No. 1 Morningside (Iowa) used a late second half run to pull away from No. 17 College of Idaho. The Mustangs were victorious and advanced to the quarterfinals after a 69-47 victory. The Lady Yotes were held without a three-pointer for the game, 0-of-18, after averaging 4.1 three-pointers per game during the regular season.
In the first four minutes of the contest, Morningside and College of the Idaho offensives were off beat and struggled to find a rhythm. When the Mustangs started clicking, they went on a 7-0 run. It took the Lady Yotes over four and a half minutes to score its first bucket.
College of Idaho's offense started to click with nine minutes to go in the first half but could not get any close r than 10 points in the first half. Going into halftime, the Mustangs held an 11 point lead, 31-20.
The Lady Yotes came out strong in the second half and started to comeback against the Mustangs. After a pair of free throws with eight minutes and 14 seconds left the Mustangs started to pull way. Morningside closed the game out on a 27-10 run to win 69-47.
Chelsie Trask led the Mustangs with 17 points and Ashlynn Muhl followed with 16 points to pace Morningside's offense. Felicity Jones scored 15 points to lead the Lady Yotes.
With the win, Morningside advances to the quarterfinals where it will face Bethel (Ind.) on Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Tyson Events Center.
