CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University men's basketball made ESPN SportsCenter Monday night after junior forward Eric Gaines threw down a dunk in the first four minutes of a game that brought fans to their feet in Powell Athletic Center.
Gaines, a 6-foot-4 native of Chicago, streaked down the court for an outlet pass on a fastbreak and took off from just inside the free throw line. The one-handed highlight reel dunk included a stiffarm to the face of Lindenwood University-Belleville's Garrett Gaffner, who fouled Gaines on the play to help give CU a 10-0 lead to start the game. By halftime, a highlight of the video was uploaded by the CU student section's YouTube account, Maroon Goons, and it wasn't long before fans and media took notice on Twitter.
"OH MY!" was all ESPN College Basketball's twitter feed could say. SportsCenter anchor Stuart Scott then began to help get the clip on SportsCenter's Top 10 Plays, rankings in at No. 6.
The clip also appeared on websites for NBC Sports, Bleacher Report and various other sports sites around Kentucky, Chicago and nationally.
Locally, WAVE3 sports anchor Kent Taylor made it his top play of the day.
