2016 Midwest NAIA Cheer & Dance Qualifiers

BELLEVILLE, Ill. — The Lindenwood University-Belleville dance team is off to the NAIA Nationals Invitational, as they picked up its first win on the year at the Midwest Regional Qualifier inside Lynx Arena. The cheer team, meanwhile, finished in fifth place.

Both the dance and cheer teams’ had to perform their routines twice, once in the preliminary round and again in the finals.

In the preliminary round, the dance team scored a 95.23 to hold first place down, after being deducted just -0.1 point.  William Penn was right on its heels at 94.18, while Missouri Baptist was in third with a score of 86.83, despite zero deductions.

Then, in the finals the Lady Lynx improved even more, finishing with a final score of 100.9 and an overall total of 99.49 to take home its first NAIA National Midwest Regional Championship. William Penn ended up in second place with a score of 97.97, while Missouri Baptist finished in third at 90.96.

On the dance side, in the preliminaries, Martin Methodist College earned the lead, as they totaled a score of 86.92. Graceland University was in second at 85.42, while Lindenwood-Belleville was in third, having a score of 83.5.

In the finale, MMC finished with a score of 87.4 and an overall total of 87.3 to win the cheer competition. The Yellow Jackets out of Graceland University finished in second with a score of 86.93, while Central Methodist moved up to third, earning a score of 85.35.

Missouri Baptist came in fourth, finishing just ahead of LU-Belleville, as they totaled a score of 83.49, while the Lady Lynx ended at 83.12.

LU-Belleville will return to the floor on March 11th and 12th, as they’ll participate at the NAIA National Cheer and Dance Invitational in Davenport, Iowa.
