KANSAS CITY, Mo. – (FCS Schedule) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has officially announced the pairings for the 2016 NAIA Football Championship Series Quarterfinals. The four games take place on Saturday, Nov. 26 at campus sites.
Since 1997, host schools own a 209-64 (.766) record in the FCS, including a 55-20 (.733) mark in the quarterfinals. Last season, hosts went 2-2 in the quarterfinals, marking the second-consecutive season that two road teams came away with victories.
Defending national champion Marian (Ind.) continues its quest for a second-straight national championship Saturday when it hosts FCS rookie Eastern Oregon. The showdown, which is the first home quarterfinal game for the Knights since 2012, is the first-ever meeting between the two clubs.
Baker (Kan.) is hosting for the second-straight season after winning a third-straight first round contest. The Wildcats welcome Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) to Liston Stadium in another first-ever FCS meeting.
Reinhardt (Ga.), which prior to the first round had never had a home playoff game, hosts Frontier Conference champion Montana Tech. The Eagles (12-0) are looking to continue their perfect season, while Montana Tech hopes to advance to the semifinals for the first time since 1996.
Similar to Baker, Saint Francis is hosting in the quarterfinals for a second-consecutive season. The Cougars, who have advanced to at least the quarterfinals in 13-straight appearances, draw fellow perennial powerhouse Morningside (Iowa). The Mustangs are making their 13th-consecutive appearance in the FCS – the longest active appearance streak in NAIA football – and have reached at least the quarterfinals in 11 of the last 13 seasons, including 2016. The two clubs have met twice previously in the FCS with both games going in favor of Saint Francis – a 53-3 victory in the 2004 first round and a 42-14 win in the 2005 semifinals. Both contests were played in Fort Wayne, Ind.
The 61st annual NAIA Football National Championship, presented by Waste Pro, is slated for Saturday, Dec. 17 in Daytona Beach, Fla. The City of Daytona Beach hosts the event at Municipal Stadium for the third-straight season. For fan and visitor information, click here.
