A Closer Look:
Former NAIA Members in NCAA Division II
Schools that have left the NAIA for NCAA Division II often face challenges with enrollment, finances, and the ability for their teams to be competitive. Institutions who have moved from the NAIA to DII over the last few years have:
- spent an average of 27% more on athletics
- increased spending per student-athlete by an average of 13%
- averaged a slight decrease in enrollment
- fallen in Directors’ Cup Rankings (with the exception of one school)
What does all this mean?
NAIA schools don’t have to have the deepest pockets to experience competitive success. The focus is where it should be – on maximizing your institution’s Return on Athletics™ through enrollment, student success, and financial viability.
