Simon Fraser Tabbed No. 1 in NAIA Women's Swimming & Diving Coaches' Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Simon Fraser (B.C.) registered three first-place votes and 24 points to grab the No. 1 ranking in the first 2010-11 NAIA Women's Swimming & Diving Coaches' Poll, the NAIA announced Thursday. California Baptist and SCAD Savannah (Ga.) each collected a first-place vote. With 22 points, the second-ranked Lancers squeezed ahead of defending national champions SCAD Savannah, who amassed 16 points. Golden State Athletic Conference schools, Fresno Pacific (Calif.) and Concordia (Calif.), round out the top five teams with 11 and six points, respectively.

The top-ranked Clan have started off the 2010-11 season with strong performances at their own Clan Cup International on Nov. 6 and at the British Columbia Invitational on Nov. 20. The last time Simon Fraser sat atop the Coaches' Poll was Dec. 12, 2007.

Following the release of individual top times on Dec. 14, Simon Fraser swimmers claimed the fastest times in the 50-yard freestyle (Cossey, 23.60 seconds), 100 freestyle (Cossey, 51.34), 200 freestyle (Cossey 1:52.15), 500 freestyle (Bogetti, 5:02.45), 1,000 freestyle (Quon, 10:20.08), 200 backstroke (Lawson, 2:06.66), 100 butterfly (Cossey, 56.02) and 200 individual medley (McEvoy, 2:12.03).

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches from the NAIA Swimming & Diving Coaches Association. The second poll will be released on Jan. 20.
