CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Harris-Stowe State University Men’s Basketball Team held Saint Xavier University (SXU) without a field goal in the final 12 minutes to complete a 65-53 victory in the Saint Xavier University Tournament, Monday afternoon. The Hornets now hold an 8-4 record overall.
Jarvis Walker, (University of Kentucky/ Chicago, IL) in his home town, led the Hornets with 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting. Terry Hollins (Marquette H.S./ Milwaukee, WI) was the only other Hornet in double figures with 15 points.
Despite trailing 35-27 at halftime, the Hornets scored the first eight points of the half to tie the score 35-35. Harris-Stowe’s defense held the Cougars to 23.8 percent shooting in the second half to secure the victory.
“This is a huge win for our program,” said Head Coach Phillip Hunt. “To defeat a nationally ranked team in (SXU) is something our program has not enjoyed in a while. Hopefully, we can use this big win as a stepping stone for future success.”
The Hornets will take on Aquinas College (MI) in the semi-final of the Saint Xavier Tournament, Tuesday at 6 p.m.
