LA CROSSE, Wis. - Senior Katina Mandylaris (Melbourne, Australia) became the 15th player in Viterbo (Wis.) history to join the 1,000 point club in a 71-66 loss to Bemidji State University on Dec. 17.
Going into the game against the Beavers, Mandylaris needed just five points to eclipse the 1,000 point mark. She was able to reach the milestone midway through the first half. She finished the contest with 19 points and five rebounds. Former V-Hawk Anne Wilson was the last player to surpass the mark back in 2005.
"Katina has been a mainstay in our program for four years," Viterbo head women's basketball coach Bobbi Vandenberg said. "She is a team player and her hard work is paying off for our team's success.
"I'm happy that she will be joining this elite group of women who have meant so much to the V-Hawk basketball program. It's been five years since anyone has reached this milestone when Shelly Brueggen and Anne Wilson did it in 2004-05. This shows how truly difficult it is. I congratulate Katina for her accomplishment and credit her work ethic that has resulted in such great improvement in her offensive skills."
Mandylaris has played in 96 games since joining the V-Hawks as a freshman in 2006. Mandylaris' averaged 8.1 ppg in her first two seasons of action. Her junior year was where she had a breakout season, finishing the 2008-09 season with 420 points (13.5 ppg) to lead the team in scoring. She has also broke the single-season rebounding record last year and is on pace to break the V-Hawks all-time rebounding record this season.
