Top 25 - No. 2
Union (Tenn.) remained in the No. 2 spot for the third-straight poll with 272 points. The remainder of the top five shuffled in rank as then-No. 3 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) was handed back-to-back losses. Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) jumped up to third with 263 points, followed by No. 4 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) with 252 points and No. 5 Westmont (Calif.) with 243 points.
Campbellsville (Ky.) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) were the victors over the defending national champion Cougars at the Citizens Bank and Trust Holiday Hoops Classic held over the weekend and were rewarded by moving up the poll. The Lady Tigers improved from 14th to 12th, while the Blue Raiders slid from 25th to 22nd. Azusa Pacific plummeted eight spots, the most suffered by any team among the Top 25, to No. 11.
Lindsey Wilson's three-spot jump was matched by No. 10 Saint Xavier (Ill.) as the best moves up in the poll. Ninth-ranked Lee (Tenn.) No. 18 Shorter (Ga.) and No. 24 Rocky Mountain (Mont.) all maintained their previous rank.
Checking in at No. 25, Rogers State (Okla.) returns to the poll after being unlisted in the first regular-season edition. The Hillcats replace Belhaven (Miss.), who occupied the No. 23 spot a week ago.
Ten of the 12 Division I women's basketball conferences and independents are represented throughout the Top 25, led by five squads from the Mid-South Conference: No. 6 Shawnee State (Ohio), Campbellsville, No. 14 Cumberlands (Ky.), No. 20 Georgetown (Ky.) and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). The Sooner Athletic Conference boasted four ranked squads.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The next regular-season Top 25 poll will be announced on Jan. 9.
