NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball Player of the Week – No. 3
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Karyn Bixler of College of Saint Mary (Neb.) has been named NAIA National Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Bixler was selected based on her performances from Jan. 14 - 20 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group winners.
Bixler helped the Flames to a 3-0 week with wins over Haskell (Kan.), then-No. 3 College of the Ozarks (Mo.) and Central Christian (Kan.). Against Haskell on Jan. 15, Bixler scored 14 points, collected six rebounds and dished out four assists. In the 70-65 upset victory over College of the Ozarks, snapping the Bobcats 24 game conference winning streak, Bixler filled the stat sheet with 20 points, seven rebounds, four steals, two assists and one block. On Jan. 19, against Central Christian, Bixler scored 14 points, which broke College of Saint Mary's careering scoring mark. She also collected nine rebounds, four assists and two blocks in the contest. She currently has 1,345 points for her career.
The 5-foot-10 guard from Omaha, Neb., averaged 16.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game. Bixler shot 60.0 percent (15-25) from the field.
Nationally, Bixler ranks 21st in total steals (59), 24th steal per game (2.8) and 24th in total blocks (29).
