NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Final Coaches' Top 25

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the first time this season, Morningside (Iowa) sits atop the 2012-13 NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced on Wednesday. The Mustangs received six-of-13 first-place votes and 336 points to earn the top ranking in the final regular-season edition.

On Feb. 27, the NAIA is providing a free live selection show with graphics to reveal the 32-team bracket for the 22nd Annual State Farm-NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship. The women's bracket will be announced at 7 p.m. CST.

Receiving two first-place votes and moving up to No. 2 is Saint Francis (Ind.) with 326 points. The Cougars won the Crossroads League Tournament Championship Monday night. Holding steady at No. 3 and receiving four first-place votes is Eastern Oregon with 322 points. Previous No. 1 Indiana Wesleyan fell three spots to No. 4, notching 312 points. Rounding out the top five and receiving the last first-place vote is College of the Ozarks (Mo.) with 305 points.

Joining the poll this week is No. 23 Valley City State (N.D.) and No. 25 College of Saint Mary (Neb.). Valley City State and College of Saint Mary were runners-up in its conference tournaments.

Ten of the 13 Division II women's basketball conferences/independents are represented throughout the Top 25, led by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference with five teams. The GPAC follows with four teams.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents. The postseason poll will be announced on March 20.

Notes: (All information as of the 1999 - 2000 season) Indiana Wesleyan has appeared at the top of the poll on 32 occasions, the most of any program, followed by Morningside (Iowa) with 19... There have been 14 different teams to garner the No. 1 ranking all-time ... Three schools have spent an entire season at No. 1: Morningside in 2008-09, College of the Ozarks (Mo.) in 2007-08 and Saint Francis (Ind.) in 1999-2000... In the last 13 years, six teams that have been rated No. 1 in the preseason have gone on to win the national championship with the last being Northwestern (Iowa), who has accomplished the feat the last two years... Morningside (115), College of the Ozarks (108) and Saint Xavier (Ill.) (102) are the only teams who have been ranked in the Top 25 for over 100 consecutive weeks... Sixteen teams have been ranked in the Top 25 all season.
