HANNIBAL, Mo. – Junior Jose Rivas’ no hitter, in the Trojans’ second game of Tuesday’s double header, helped Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) (13-14) sweep Missouri Valley (2-15). The Caracas, Venezuela native followed HLGU’s 8-6 victory by leading the Trojans to a 5-0 win.

After falling behind in 6-0 in the series opener, Hannibal-LaGrange used two runs in the fourth inning and six runs in the sixth inning to earn the come-from-behind win.

Senior Travis Mundahl brought in the winning run with a RBI single up the middle. Juniors Brandon Bennett and Andrew Pollard scored on the single to move the Trojans in front 8-6.

Junior pinch runner Harrison Broadstreet scored the first run of the sixth inning off of an error by the Viking shortstop while sophomore Drew Morecraft was brought in on a bases loaded walk issued to Bennett. Pollard brought in the next run with a single to left field while senior Thad McVeigh scored the fourth run of the inning as senior Clint Hamilton was hit by a pitch with the bases still loaded.

McVeigh brought in the first run of the game for Hannibal-LaGrange in the fourth inning off of a sacrifice fly, scoring Morecraft.

The Trojans second run of the inning came in off of junior Curtis Stout’s single to shallow right-center field, bringing in senior Blake Zurliene from second. Zurliene set up the RBI single after swiping his team leading 13th base of the season.

Sophomore pitcher Charles Rapp picked up the win in relief as he replace senior starter Eric Bruening in the fourth. Zurliene came on in the seventh and closed out the contest with back-to-back strike outs to grab his fifth save of the year.

All five Trojan runs in Hannibal-LaGrange’s second game came in the fourth inning, which was more than enough help for Rivas.

The junior didn’t allow a single hit in seven innings pitched to pick up his second win of the season. Only three Vikings reached base in Rivas’ first collegiate no hitter, two by way of walks and another via a Trojan error.

Senior Ian Sikes and Morecraft led off Hannibal-LaGrange’s five run fourth inning with a walk and hit by pitch while Zurliene loaded the bases with a single. McVeigh followed the single with a RBI walk and Shawn singled to score both Morecraft and Zurliene, giving the Trojans a 3-0 lead.

McVeigh scored Hannibal-LaGrange’s fourth run of the inning on an error by the Viking shortstop and Shawn scored the final run off of Sikes’ bases loaded walk.

The two wins give the Trojans a three game winning streak and some momentum heading into their four game conference series at Benedictine-Springfield. The series is set to start on Friday, April 5 at noon in Springfield, Ill.
