Menís Tennis National Championships Recap Ė Day 2

MOBILE, Ala. – (Scores) (Bracket) After two days of action at the NAIA Men’s Tennis National Championship in Mobile, Ala., at the Mobile Tennis Center, eight teams remain. In Tuesday action, two seeded teams were upset as fifth-seed Bethany (Kan.) and seventh-seed Bethel (Tenn.) fell. Quarterfinal action starts tomorrow at 9 a.m.
Top-seed Embry-Riddle (Fla.) overcame an early deficit against Northwestern Ohio to win 5-2 in the second round. Embry-Riddle dropped two-of-three doubles to trail 2-1 going into singles action. The Eagles bounced back in singles and won four to clinch the match and advance to the quarterfinals where they will face Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) tomorrow. With the win the Eagles improve their winning streak to 19-straight.
Lindsey Wilson advances to the quarterfinals after defeating Concordia (Calif.), 7-0. Lindsey Wilson took all three doubles sets including an exciting, 9-8 (7-5), tiebreaker set. The Blue Raiders dominated in singles as they took every set to advance to the quarterfinals to face top-seed Embry-Riddle tomorrow.
Aquinas (Mich.) upset fifth-seed Bethany, 5-2, in the second round of the national championship. Aquinas took two-of-three doubles and continued its strong play in singles. Nik Artaev dropped his first set before winning the next two to win the match for the Saints. Aquinas will face fourth-seed Westmont (Calif.) in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
Westmont defeated William Carey (Miss.), 5-1, Tuesday in the second round of the national championship. Westmont took a 2-1 lead after taking No. 1 and 2 doubles and continued its winning ways in singles. The Warriors advance to the quarterfinals to face Aquinas (Mich.) tomorrow.
Vanguard (Calif.) advances to the quarterfinals after defeating Warner (Fla.), 5-1, on Tuesday. Vanguard took No. 1 doubles, 9-8 (7-5) to take all three doubles points. Vanguard won No. 1 and 5 singles to take the match and move on to face Xavier (La.).
Xavier is moving on to the quarterfinals after defeating Belhaven (Miss.), 5-3. Xavier, who is playing with only five men, won both doubles matches and only dropped one singles match against the Blazers. Loic Didavi, Xavier’s No. 1 singles player, won, 6-1, 6-2. Xavier will face Vanguard in the quarterfinals.
Cumberland (Tenn.) took down seventh-seed Bethel in the second round of the national championship. Cumberland won two doubles matches to start the upset of the seventh seed. Antonio Manuel Marcelo clinched the victory for the Bulldogs with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles. Cumberland moves on to face second-seed Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) tomorrow.
Second-seed Auburn Montgomery downed Graceland (Iowa), 5-0 in the second round. The Warhawks swept the doubles action taking No. 1 and No. 3 dobles, 8-5 and No. 2 doubles, 8-4. Auburn Montgomery clinched the victory bye winning No. 2 and No. 6 singles. Auburn Montgomery advances to the quarterfinals to face Cumberland (Tenn.)
