Former Mobile Golfer Makes PGA TOUR Debut Thursday

MADISON, Miss.-- Former Mobile (Ala.) golfer Nathan Rau will make his PGA TOUR debut Thursday when he competes in the Sanderson Farms Championship at Annandale Golf Club.
A native of Cumming, Ga., Rau fired a 62 in Monday's qualifier at the Lake Caroline Golf Club. Rau birdied nine holes and added an eagle to qualify.
The Sanderson Farms Championship runs Thursday, July 18 - Sunday, July 21 and has a purse of $3,000,000, with the winner taking home $540,000.
Rau is in group #11 with Nolan Henke and Ted Tryba. They will tee off on hole one at 8:50 a.m.
Among the 132 players competing are Masters winner Trevor Immelman, David Toms, Stuart Appleby and Davis Love III.
Rau played 2007-09 at Mobile after transferring from Darton State College. With the Rams, he was a 1st-Team All-Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) selection for the 2007-08 season and a two-time GCAC All-Academic honoree.
The Rams won the GCAC Championship both years and Rau won the individual title in the 2007-08 season after firing a 2-under 142 (68, 74).
Rau has been playing on the Emerald Coast Tour. He last competed on the ECGT June 5-7 in the Drex Guthrie Classic at Troy Country Club where he placed 6th with a 198 (68, 63, 67).
In his last season at Mobile, Rau won the UST Texas Intercollegiate with a 7-under 137 (68, 69), finished 10th at the Troy University Invitational with a 17-over 233 (77, 75, 81) and finished 3rd at the NAIA Preview Invitational with a 9-over 151 (75, 76).
