Gainesville, Ga.- Emmaleigh Davis scored two goals, including the game winner in double overtime, as #12 William Carey defeated #22 Brenau University, 2-1 in the NAIA Women's Soccer Game of the Week.
With the win WCU runs their current winning streak to five matches as they improve to 7-4 on the season and 4-0 in SSAC play. Brenau falls to 6-3-1 on the season and 3-1 in SSAC action.
In a contest that featured the nation's two leading goal scorers, WCU's Emmaleigh Davis and Brenau's Esther Anyanwu, an offensive showdown was expected but both defenses had other ideas as the two teams battled to scoreless tie at the half.
The game remained scoreless until the 70th minute when Davis put WCU in front as she knocked in Kristen Satcher's corner kick to make it 1-0 WCU. The lead was short lived and less than a minute later Anyanwu struck for the Lady Golden Tigers to tie the game at 1-1.
After the quick explosion of offense both defenses clamped down as the game headed in to overtime. Neither team threatened in the first overtime but in second Satcher found Davis again for the game winner in the 102nd minute.
Linfah Jones picked up the win in goal as she recorded 11 saves.
The Lady Crusaders return to action on Wednesday October 2nd as they host the University of Mobile. Kick-off is set for 5:00 pm at Crusader Field.
