MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - On a night when the Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) women's volleyball team was honoring its three seniors and also playing the final match in a building that has seen the home team win nearly 80 percent of its matches all-time, the Lady Cougars posted an impressive 26-24, 29-27, 25-22 sweep over Grace (Ind.) on Wednesday. In addition, coach Paul Swanson notched his 1,000th win at the school in the process.

Annelise Rohrer led MVNU (13-14, 8-9 Crossroads League), which has now won six of its last seven matches, with 14 kills, 10 digs, and four blocks against the Lady Lancers (17-12, 8-9 Crossroads League), who have now dropped six straight contests.  Kendra Votaw added 11 kills, two aces, and eight digs, and Elsy Flores finished with eight kills and four blocks.  Bridget Troyer and Carolyn Beatty handed out 17 and 12 assists respectively, while Marlowe Beatty posted 23 digs.  Kelly Mast also contributed three blocks, and Morgan Pridemore added eight digs.

"We did a great job of winning all the important points when the match was on the line," said Swanson, who improves to 1,000-366 (.732 winning percentage) in his 30th season at MVNU and 1,015-381 in 31 seasons overall.  "We scrambled really well tonight and were able to keep the play alive on numerous instances in order to get a point."

"I am really happy for the seniors to have their night be one where we played really well in front of a great crowd and beat a really good team," Swanson added referring to Mast, Pridemore, and Votaw who were honored prior to the match.  "This match was a great tribute for them and one that they will remember."

The match was the final volleyball match scheduled to be played in the Physical Education Center as Ariel Arena is slated to open in less than three weeks.  The MVNU volleyball program will finish with a 356-90 record (.798 winning percentage) in the building that included a then NAIA-record 70-match home winning streak from 1991-1997 and a program best 19-0 mark at home in 2007.

The Lady Cougars will return to action on Friday when the team will travel to the Cornerstone (Mich.) University/Aquinas (Mich.) College Invitational.  MVNU will take on Clarke (Iowa) University at 5 p.m. and then face Rochester (Mich.) College at 8 p.m.
