PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Senior Tianna Jones hit a layup with two seconds left as the Lady Tornadoes knocked off the NCAA Division I Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 77-75, Tuesday (Dec. 17) night at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Talladega (Ala.) lead, 75-69, with 3:13 remaining in the game. A pair of free throws and layup by UAPB tied the game at 75 with 10.1 second left in the contest. Following a timeout by Talladega College, Jones took the inbound pass and ran down the left sideline before forcing up the shot – handing the Lady Lions their seventh-straight loss and first against an NAIA opponent.
Talladega, which was ranked 13th in the NAIA Division I Women's Basketball Coaches' Top 25 poll coming into Tuesday's game, trailed by as much as 12 points in the first half. They closed the half with a 14-3 run to cut the deficit to 35-34 at the break.
Talladega was lead in scoring by Ryann Drear with 23 points, followed by Arielle George’s 18-point effort. The Lady Tornadoes went 8-for-20 from behind the arc and shot 45 percent (24-of-53) from the field. Talladega also was 21-for-28 at the free throw line.
This mark the second time this season Talladega has beaten a NCAA Division I opponent with the first coming November 14 against Samford (Ala.), 50-49.
