MOBILE, Ala. – The Spring Hill College baseball team took both ends of a non-conference doubleheader over Concordia College-Selma by the score of 12-1 and 18-5 at historic Stan Galle Field on Tuesday night, handing head coach Frank Sims his 799th and 800th career victories.
In the opening contest, SHC built a 5-1 lead over the Hornets after two innings and used a six-run outburst in the 4th inning to coast to 12 a 12-1 victory as Hunter Nowak (6-4) earned the win in five innings of work with four hits allowed, no walks and three strikeouts.
Darius Ford took the loss for Concordia in 3.1 innings with 11 hits allowed, four walks and no strikeouts.
The nightcap featured a nine-run 5th frame by the Badgers after Concordia took a 4-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Cyrus Beermann (1-0) took home the decision in two innings with a hit, a walk and two strikeouts in relief of starter Christian Bahlinger who lasted three innings with seven hits, a walk and four strikeouts.
Hunter Webster was saddled with the loss for the Hornets in four innings with four hits, eight walks and two strikeouts.
At the plate, Badger centerfielder Taylor Eads went 5-for-6 with a double and four RBI, catcher Roy Moulder collected four hits with a double and four RBI and shortstop Brook Bobinger added four hits with two RBI.
Concordia was paced on the day by centerfielder Christian Briscoe and third baseman Dayan Patterson who tallied three hits with a double and an RBI each.
Sims’ career record now stands at 800-803-3 in 30 seasons as a collegiate head coach.
Spring Hill (28-24, 14-13 SSAC) will next host conference foe and 10th-ranked Brewton-Parker College (27-9, 16-7 SSAC) in a doubleheader at Stan Galle Field on Thursday at 3 p.m.
