Highlights from the 2014-15 Scorecard

Every institution and conference has their progress in pursuing character education tracked and recognized annually for achievements in training, promotion and conduct in competition. The Champions of Character Scorecard measures commitment in five key areas and has a possible 100 points. There are three levels that are awarded: Gold (90-100 points), Silver (75-89 points) and Bronze levels (60-74). 

 

 

2014-15 Five-Star Institutions & Conferences

169 member institutions were named to the Five-Star Award winners.

 

•  Columbia College, SC, score of 109
• 29 Gold Institutions
• 68 Silver Institutions
• 72 Bronze Institutions
• Total 169 Institutions
• 20 out of 21 Conferences/A.I.I. received the Five-Star Conference Award

  • Four schools had point totals over 100: Columbia College (S.C.), SCAD Atlanta (Ga.), Cumberlands (Ky.), Blue Mountain (Miss.)
  • 29 Gold Institutions
  • 68 Silver Institutions
  • 72 Bronze Institutions
  • 236 total institutions (169 received designation)
  • 20 out of 21 conferences/A.I.I received the 5-star Conference Award

Training to Staff

  • 191 institutions have their coaches review the Code of Ethics and the NAIA Coaches Code
  • 60 institutions used the Running a G-Rated Program
  • 49 institutions presented the program “Curb Appeal”
  • 45 institutions attended a sport summit on conduct in competition
  • 32 institutions viewed their commissioner expectation video

Learn to Live 5 online student-athlete training course

  • 91 institutions completed
  • 51 completed all Live 5 courses

Live 5 training/activities

  • 142 institutions use Live 5 posters
  • 86 institutions participated in a Live 5 Activity posted online
  • 150 institutions had student-athletes sign the Student-Athlete Pledge
  • 111 institutions did team building activities
  • 26 viewed their commissioner expectation video

Outreach

  • 191 institutions presented core values at camp, clinic or school = 74,494 students hearing the message
  • 84 institutions read specific books with core values = 8,306 students hearing the message
  • 46 institutions presented the Role of Parents in Athletics = 9,141 parents hearing the message
  • 72 institutions presented How to Teach Character Through Sports = 8,671 coaches hearing the message
  • 37 institutions presented Redefining the Term student-athlete = 5,446 student-athletes hearing the message
  • 30,821 heard our core values in other ways
  • Total of 158,320 people outside of the NAIA were reached

Community Service

  • 632 Community service projects throughout the year.
