Top 25 Poll - No. 3

September 20, 2011

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the first time this year, there is a unanimous selection at the top of the third edition of the 2011 NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. No. 1 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) gathered all 22 first-place votes to take home the top ranking for the third-consecutive week. The Cougars, who posted 622 total points, will take some time off before a home match against No. 18 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) on Oct. 1.

Second-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) flip-flopped with No. 3 Lee (Tenn.) after the Blue Raiders took down Lee, 3-1 on Sept. 17. Lindsey Wilson collected 602 total points, while the Lady Flames finished with 578 points. No. 4 Robert Morris (Ill.) held its position with 554 total points. Powered by 524 points, Concordia (Ore.) moves up one spot to the No. 5 position.

Twenty programs shifted in the poll this week. The biggest improvement within the Top 25 was a four-spot jump with these teams: No. 11 Mobile (Ala.), No. 15 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) and No. 18 Point Loma Nazarene. No. 25 Carroll (Mont.) slid down the farthest within the poll (five spots) as the Fighting Saints have lost two of their last three matches.

No. 24 Westminster (Utah) finds itself in the Top 25 for the first time since the 1999 poll. The Griffins defeated then-No. 25 Kansas Wesleyan, 5-1, on Sept. 16 to push the Coyotes out of the rankings. Behind a 6-3-0 record, Westminster has won its last two matches by a 9-2 combined score. Kansas Wesleyan was the only squad to fall out of the Top 25 this week.

Fourteen conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented throughout the Top 25, led by four squads from the Golden State Athletic Conference: Azusa Pacific, No. 6 Concordia (Calif.), No. 12 The Master’s (Calif.) and Point Loma Nazarene. The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference and Southern States Athletic Conference each boast a trio of ranked teams.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups. The next regular-season Top 25 poll will be announced on Sept. 27.
