Each NAIA institution develops and implements a Champions of Character campus program, which typically addresses:
Ongoing character education and professional development for coaches, athletics administrative staff and student-athletes
Hospitality and game management of athletics events
Conduct in competition
At least one annual servant-leadership activity characterized by student leadership and athletic community engagement
Ongoing oversight and assessment of progress in the plan's implementation
|
Each NAIA institution has a Champions of Character Liaison who is responsible for implementing the program. Here's how to get started:
Become familiar with the many program resources and determine how they can be used at your institution
Understand the Champions of Character Scorecard requirements and input Scorecard information online
Determine how Champions of Character can be incorporated into current activities
Ensure ALL of your institution's coaches have completed Character Driven Coaching
Partner with a local school or organization to deliver the Champions of Character message
Conduct at least one student-led servant leadership activity
|
Enhance your institution's existing Champions of Character program:
Use the Champions of Character Scorecard to determine strengths and areas that need improvement
Review conference and institution ejection and suspension reports to address areas of concern
Take advantage of the program resources to supplement or provide additional training for your coaches and student-athletes
On an annual basis review each of your coaches' Character Driven Coaching profiles
Work with local schools and organizations to further develop Champions of Character outreach activities in your community
Complete Champions of Character Training Courses available online and at the NAIA National Convention
