Top 25 Poll - No. 6
October 11, 2011
While Texas at Brownsville kept its hold on the No. 1 spot, Concordia (Calif.) became the fourth team this season to be ranked No. 2. The Eagles, who garnered 600 points, are unbeaten in Golden State Athletic Conference play (GSAC) and boast a 19-match winning streak. Columbia (Mo.) moved up one spot to No. 3 with 584 points and Lee (Tenn.) also jumped one place to No. 4 with 553 points. Embry-Riddle (Fla.), which lost to Shorter (Ga.) and then-No. 4 Columbia on Oct. 7, fell back three spots to No. 5 with 541 points.
Biola (Calif.) made the largest leap of all ranked teams, going from No. 15 to No. 12 this week. The Eagles improved their GSAC mark to 5-3 with wins over then-No. 9 Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) and San Diego Christian (Calif.) last week. A pair of teams improved two places: No. 16 Southern Oregon and No. 19 Spring Hill (Ala.). Indiana East checks in at No. 25 after a week absence from the rankings.
Madonna (Mich.), ranked 23rd a week ago, is the only team to drop out of the Top 25. The Crusaders have lost four of their last six matches, including a 3-0 defeat to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference rival Cornerstone (Mich.) on Oct. 7. Bellevue (Neb.), which fell from 14th to 19th, and Point Loma Nazarene, which went from ninth to 14th, experienced the largest fall among ranked teams.
For the fourth-consecutive week, the GSAC placed six teams in the poll. The GSAC, which has led all leagues in Top 25 squads each week this season, is represented by Concordia, No. 7 Azusa Pacific (Calif.), No. 8 Fresno Pacific (Calif.), Biola, Point Loma Nazarene and No. 21 Vanguard (Calif.). The Frontier Conference again garnered the second-most ranked schools with three and four leagues put two teams in the Top 25.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and Independents. The next poll will be announced on Oct. 18.
