KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) earned its fourth-straight No. 1-ranking in the eighth edition of the 2011 NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. For the fourth time in as many weeks, the Blue Raiders were the unanimous pick, taking all 21 first-place votes for 591 points. They own an overall record of 13-0-1, including a 6-0-0 mark in Mid-South Conference action. Lindsey Wilson has just one league match left on its schedule before hosting No. 8 Martin Methodist (Tenn.) in a non-conference collision on Oct. 29.
The top-five teams remained intact, with a slight shift. For the fourth week, Lee (Tenn.) checked in at No. 2 with 572 points. In the previous poll, Mobile (Ala.) and Azusa Pacific (Calif.) were deadlocked at fifth. That tie has been broken, with Mobile taking sole possession of No. 5 (506 points) and Azusa Pacific moving to sixth (504 points). Concordia (Ore.) held on to its previous ranking at No. 3 with 542 points and is matched by Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.) with 542 points.
Other than the movement due to ties, the top-11 squads maintained their positions among the Top 25. Nine teams throughout the rest of the poll climbed in rank, while six dropped and one made its first appearance of the 2011 campaign. No. 16 Judson (Ill.) and No. 20 Kansas Wesleyan bumped up three spots as the big movers. Westmont's (Calif.) two losses forced the Warriors back six spots, from No. 12 to 18.
There was a switch in Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) teams as No. 25 Vanguard (Calif.) replaced previously ranked No. 24 The Master's (Calif.) after a 1-0 double-overtime decision on Oct. 22. It is the first time this season that the Lions have appeared in the Top 25.
Fourteen conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented throughout the Top 25, led by five squads from the GSAC: Point Loma Nazarene, Azusa Pacific, No. 13 Concordia (Calif.), Westmont and The Master's (Calif.). The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference boasts four ranked squads and The Sun Conference has a trio.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups. The next regular-season Top 25 poll will be announced on Nov. 1. The second edition of the NAIA Women's Soccer Modified Ratings Percentage Index (MRPI) will be released Wednesday by 5 p.m. CDT.
