MRPI - No. 1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Mobile (Ala.) earned the top spot in the first official NAIA Men’s Soccer Modified Ratings Percentage Index (MRPI), announced by the national office Wednesday. This is the Rams’ (6-0-0) first-ever No. 1 spot in the MRPI, since the MRPI was introduced in 2010. Defending national champion Hastings (Neb.) follows at No. 2 and is riding an NAIA-record 33-match active winning streak. Rounding out the top five are No. 3 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), No. 4 Rio Grande (Ohio) and No. 5 Belhaven (Miss.).
The highest previous spot for Mobile was No. 9 in the Nov. 14, 2010 edition of the MRPI. The Rams become the third different team to hold the top billing, joining Rio Grande and former NAIA member Simon Fraser (B.C.).
The MRPI consists of the team’s modified winning percentage, their opponents’ winning percentage and the cumulative ranking points from the current NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. Each of the three values has a weighted percentage calculated in the MRPI. The MRPI modifies the value of home/away/neutral results and adds more value for games against opponents ranked in their respective national poll.
The MRPI will select the at-large qualifying teams and seed the 31-team national championship field – Mobile (Ala.) automatically qualifies as the national championship final site host institution. The next official MRPI announcement will be on Oct. 26.
