No. 2 Briar Cliff (Iowa) climbed up the latter three spots from the Preseason Top 25 and finished with 352 total points. Ozarks (Mo.) enjoyed the same improvement sliding up to the third position with 351 points. Rounding out the top five is No. 4 Concordia (Mich.) and No. 5 Hastings (Neb.).
Hastings is one of six programs freshly ranked compared to the Preseason Top 25. No. 15 Indiana Tech, No. 19 Jamestown (N.D.), No. 21 Saint Mary (Neb.), No. 22 Montreat (N.C.) and No. 23 St. Thomas (Fla.) join Hastings as the newcomers.
Six teams have yet to be hit with a loss, including the No. 1-ranked Wildcats. Five of these clubs are ranked in the top 10. Jamestown holds the most wins in the NAIA with a 10-1 record.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The second regular-season poll will be announced on Dec. 5.
Notes: (All information as of the 1999-2000 season) Preseason No. 1 Northwestern (Iowa) fell out of the poll after stumbling to a 4-4 record… No. 7 Davenport (Mich.) falls out of the top five for the first time since Oct. 27, 2008 (No. 15)… No. 16 Kansas Wesleyan has suffered the most losses in the Top 25 with a 4-4 record.
