KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Matthew Clowes of Concordia (Ore.) has been named the NAIA National Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and Robbie Haynie of Eastern Oregon has been tabbed as the NAIA National Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Clowes and Haynie were selected based on their performances from Jan. 23 – 29.

Clowes, a freshman from Stoke-on-Trent, England, shattered Concordia’s previous school record in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Division I Washington Invite on Jan. 28. His time of 14:05.32 leads the NAIA and ranks seventh amongst individuals across NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA levels. Individually, Clowes finished fourth of 32 participants in the event.

Haynie, a senior from Nampa, Idaho, set personal bests in all three events he participated in, including NAIA national qualifying marks in the men’s pole vault and men’s high jump at the NCAA Division I Boise State (Idaho) Jackson Invitational on Jan. 28. His mark of 17-6 ½ in the pole vault, which bettered his previous indoor school record by 3 ¼ inches, was good for second-place in the event behind a post-collegiate athlete. Additionally, the mark gives him a more than one-foot cushion over the second best NAIA vault this season. Haynie currently ranks fifth in the NAIA in the high jump following a leap of 6-8 ¼ over the weekend, which was good for second place at Boise State.
