KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kyle Erickson of Montana Western has been named the NAIA National Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Erickson was selected based on his performances from Feb. 6 - 12 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
Erickson, a 6-foot-4 senior forward, went off for two, 30-point games in a pair of Bulldog wins last week. In the 89-75 upset victory against No. 13 Montana State-Northern in the NAIA Game of the Week on Feb. 10, Erickson set career highs in points (32), free throws made (11), 3-point field goals made (7) and field goals made (10). His previous career scoring high was 18, set last season. He finished his night by shooting 10-for-11 from the field.
One night later, the native of Broadview, Mont., notched 31 points and grabbed a career-tying 14 rebounds in the 66-63 win against Great Falls (Mont.). He went 10-for-16 from the floor.
For the week, he averaged 31.5 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and shot 74.1 percent (20-of-27) overall.
The next Player of the Week announcement will be on Feb. 21.
