Sioux City, Iowa – (Box Score) No. 1-ranked Indiana Wesleyan had little trouble busting open a big lead en route to an efficient 65-44 victory over Menlo (Calif.) on Wednesday in the first round of the State Farm-NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship in Sioux City, Iowa.
Krystal Stoneking picked up where she left off in the regular season, going for 15 points and 10 rebounds on 7-for-14 shooting from the field. Three other Wildcats finished in double figures, including Stephanie Burtch (14), Claire Freeman (12) and Paige Smith (11).
Indiana Wesleyan knocked down 4-of-6 from beyond the arc and shot 45.8 percent from the field while limiting Menlo to 34.0 percent. The Wildcats turned it over just seven times compared to 17 for the Lady Oaks.
Indiana Wesleyan used its usual suffocating defense (ranked No. 1 in the nation in scoring defense) to limit Menlo to 18 first-half points. The Wildcats, looking to claim their first national title since 2007, led 35-18 at the break.
Indiana Wesleyan advances to play Friends (Kan.) on Friday at 10:15 a.m. in the second round at the Tyson Events Center.
