Davenport Earns Date in Second Round

Sioux City, Iowa – (Box Score) The fifth game of the first day of action at the State Farm-NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship saw yet another double-figure spread as Davenport (Mich.) breezed to an 84-63 win over Cal State San Marcos.

The Panthers rode the hot hands of Karlee Despres and Abbey Hengesbach on Wednesday at the Tyson Events Center. Both of whom registered double-figures in scoring in the first half. Hengesbach finished with a game-high 18 points behind 8-for-10 free throw shooting, while Despres tallied 14.

The Panthers benefited from a 37-19 edge in bench points and a sparkling 50.8 percent shooting mark from the field. The Cougars were plagued all night by 32 turnovers as three Panthers plucked three steals a piece.

Cal State San Marcos (18-15) was paced by Sidney Dobner’s 13 points. Michel’La Logan added 11 points.

Davenport (30-4) will move on to the second round where it will match up with either Briar Cliff (Iowa) or St. Thomas (Fla.) at 3:30 p.m. CST on Friday.
