POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. — (Box Score) Top-seed Northwood (Fla.) played a dominant first half en route to an impressive 77-50 win over No. 8 Northwest (Wash.) in the quarterfinals of the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship.
The Seahawks began the game with a 12-2 run and held a remarkable 38-9 lead after a Patrick Horstmann 3-pointer with six minutes left in the first half. Northwood was in front 44-19 at the break after shooting 64 percent from the floor and 60 percent from the 3-point line. The Seahawks held Northwest, one of the best 3-point shooting teams in the NAIA, to just 7 percent (1-for-15) in the opening half.
Northwood kept the lead around 30 for the duration of the final half.
Masse Doumbe led all scorers with 19 points and pulled down nine rebounds, while Northwood teammate Jonathan Dunn added 16. Patrick Horstmann and Noah Keeton were also in double-figures with 10 points each. The Seahawks shot 52 percent for the game and outrebounded Northwest 33-25.
Northwest shot 34 percent for the game and went 4-for-25 (16 percent) from beyond the arc. Jason Waltman and Jordan Call scored 12 points each with Waltman adding a team-high seven rebounds. Northwest ends the season with a 29-5 record.
Northwood improves to 33-3 and will play No. 5 McPherson (Kan.) in the semifinals on Monday, March 12 at 6:00pm.
