MARION, Ind. - The No. 3 seed Taylor Trojans managed to pull out a victory over their MCC counterpart Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars in the first game of the bottom bracket in NAIA Baseball Tournament opening round play. Taylor handed the Cougars their second loss, eliminating them from the tournament, by a 6-4 score line.

Taylor started strong, knocking in 6 runs in the first two innings, gaining a 4 run cushion after MVNU put two of their own on the board in the 1st. The score would remain 6-3 in favor of the Trojans until the fifth when the Cougars were able to add a fourth. Two more scoreless innings followed, and Taylor looked set to cruise through 6-3 winners. A run in the 8th by MVNU's Seth Eller made things a bit more interesting as the score was cut to 6-4 headed to the 9th.

In the top of the 9th the Cougars were able to get men on second and third following a 2 wild throws by Taylor closer Drew Flatford. With two outs and two men on base Flatford induced a ground out to third by Eller, and the Trojan's secured their progress to the next round.

Taylor will now face No. 1 Concordia University Irvine at 8:00pm, Thursday May 11.
