Point Park Earns Spot in World Series

MARION, Ind. - Point Park clinched their birth in the Avista NAIA World Series with a win Saturday night over Doane College by a 7-5 score. The Pioneers completed their sweep of opening round play and will hope to continue their winning streak in Lewiston, ID.

Point Park took a 4-0 Lead in the 4, putting 3 runs on the board and looked to be sailing through. Nathan Spohn threw 5 innings for the Pioneers and gave up just 5 hits and 2 runs to the Tigers.. Mike Tullio game on the clean things up for the Pioneers and managed to wrap up the championship win with 3 innings pitched

Doane made things lively, bringing the score level with solid hitting beginning in the 5th. Doane put 2 runs on in the top of the 8th to tie the game at five, but were unable to hold the Pioneers offensive charge in the bottom of that same inning.

Tim Carlson took the loss for the Tigers, he was joined on the mount by Nathan Roth, and Nick Dawson who started the game for Doane.

Point Park will now travel to Lewiston ID to Compete in the 2012 Avista NAIA World Series.
