Deadline Approaching to Complete Coaches Course
Due to a change in NAIA legislation, coaches at NAIA member institutions who were hired prior to July 1 2012, have only until July 15, 2012 to complete the NAIA Character-Driven online training course. Coaches hired after August 1, 2012, have 60 days to complete the course. Coaches hired between July 1 and August 1 of this year must complete the course by September 30, 2012.
At the recent NAIA Convention, the membership passed legislation proposed by the National Administrative Council to require all coaches to complete the training within the first 60 days of hire. The previous rule allowed one year to complete the training. Also, any coach who does not complete the training within the first 60 days of hire will be reported to the NAIA National Conduct and Ethics Committee.
Like the previous requirement, this rule pertains to the entire coaching staff at an NAIA member institution, including all paid and voluntary head coaches, as well as all associate, assistant and graduate assistant coaches.
The course is available 24 hours a day, and it takes approximately two hours to complete it. Coaches are able to work at their own pace, save their work and return to it later. Upon completion of the course, coaches have developed their own customized practice plan to intentionally teach character to their team.
