HATTIESBURG, Miss. - (Box Score) No. 8 William Carey (Miss.) surrendered one goal in the first half as they dropped a difficult 1-0 decision against No. 2 Lee (Tenn.) in the NAIA Game of the Week.
In the first half, Ashley Aragona knocked home what proved to be the game winner in the 24th minute as she slipped a Leah Fortune pass past WCU keeper Linfah Jones to put the Lady Flames up 1-0.
WCU (7-2-1, 2-0 SSAC) regrouped at the break and took the game to Lee in the second half. It looked as if William Carey would even the game up in the 54th minute as the WCU got off three shots in from close range but the Lee defense held.
Ten minutes later, Lee (6-1, 3-0 SSAC) returned the favor getting off four shots inside the box however the WCU defense held strong.
William Carey had one last shot to tie the game in the final seconds however Kristin Satcher's corner kick couldn't be converted as Lee held on.
Leah Wilson picked up the win in goal for Lee stopping 6 shots. LInfah Jones recorded nine saves including six in the second half for WCU.
William Carey returns to action tomorrow at 5:00 pm as the host Brenau University. The Lady Flames travel to Jackson, MS, tomorrow to take on Belhaven University.
