SIOUX CITY, Iowa - (Box Score) Fifth-seeded College of Idaho survived a scare to defeat fourth-seeded Oklahoma Wesleyan, 66-65, in the last game of the first day of the State Farm-NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship. The Lady Yotes had a controlling 14 point lead in the second half but saw it trimmed all the way down to one, before coming away with the win.
In a highly contest first half, the Lady Yotes and Lady Eagles battled to a one point game at half and both teams shooting 36 percent from the field. The Lady Yotes were lead by Felicity Jones and Katelin Shannon, who scored 15 and 12 points respectfully to lead the Lady Yotes to a, 32-31 halftime lead.
College of Idaho started to pull away in the second half. With 7:29 left the Lady Yotes had extended its lead to 14 points. However, the Lady Eagles started to battle back and with 33 seconds left in the game had trimmed College of Idaho's lead down to three points.
However, the Lady Eagles had turned the ball over with five seconds left underneath its own basket. Oklahoma Baptist received a second chance as the Lady Eagles forced a jump ball with two seconds left. The Lady Eagles could not get off a shot and fell, 66-65.
Felicity Jones, who was 6-of-9 from behind the arc, led all scorers in the contest with 25 points for the Lady Yotes. Delaney Jones led the Lady Eagles with 15 points.
The Lady Yotes will face No. 1 Morningside (Iowa) in the second round on Friday at 7 p.m.
