Pitcher & Player of the Week - No. 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Brady Steiger of Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) has been named the NAIA National Baseball Player of the Week and Elliott Engle of Doane (Neb.) has been tabbed National Pitcher of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Steiger and Engle were selected based on their performances from March 11 - 17 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
Steiger, a native of Port Orchard, Wash., hit .750 for the week with 12 hits in 16 at-bats, including two home runs, five doubles, seven RBIs and nine runs scored. The junior infielder was 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run driven in three runs in game-two of a double header against Oregon Tech on March 16. Steiger helped the Warriors push their winning streak to eight games.
On the season, Steiger ranks eighth in the NAIA in doubles (12), 19th in hits (40) and 24th in RBIs (28). His .482 batting average leads the Warriors and is 16th in the NAIA.
Engle, a junior from Lincoln, Neb., finished 1-0 last week, with a 7-0 victory over Manhattan Christian (Kan.) on March 15. Against Manhattan Christian, Engle threw the first perfect game in Doane's school history. He struck out 12, one shy of his career-high, while walking none. Engle capped off the perfect game when he fielded a two-hopper that came back to the mound.
On the season, Engle owns a 2-2 record, 1.87 earned run average and has struck out 36 and only walked six. He is holding opponents to hit .177, which is 23rd best in the nation.
