KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nicolas Pinones-Haltenhoff of Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) has been named the first NAIA Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the 2013 season, the national office announced Wednesday. Pinones-Haltenhoff was selected based on his performances from March 11– 17 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selections.
The sophomore native of Barcelona, Spain, was 5-1 last week, including 2-1 in No. 1 singles and 3-0 in No. 3 doubles categories. Pinones-Haltenhoff ranked as the No. 2 singles player in the NAIA by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, posted a 7-5, 6-2, victory over NCAA Division II No. 4 singles player Will Wolfer of Lynn (Fla.).
Pinones-Haltenhoff and doubles partner Miguel Grifol won all three of their doubles matches and improved to 10-0 on the season. Pinones-Haltenhoff holds an 11-1 record in singles and 11-1 record in doubles this season.
The next men’s tennis Player of the Week will be announced on March 27.
