JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - All-American wide receiver Cole McKenzie will have an opportunity to continue his football career in the National Football League, as the former Raider signed a free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday.
McKenzie earned NAIA All-American honors in 2012 after setting program records with 1,661 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns for the Raiders. He set single-game records with 19 catches and 265 yards in Southern Oregon's (SOU) NAIA Quarterfinals loss to Morningside
"We're very proud of Cole," SOU offensive coordinator Ken Fasnacht said. "He gave all he had to SOU football the past two years and now he gets the opportunity of a lifetime."
The free agent contract means a quick turnaround for McKenzie, who will report to Jacksonville on May 2. He will look to become only the third SOU football player in program history to appear in a regular season NFL contest, and the first since 2005. Former Raiders Dusty McGrorty and Andrae Thurman are the only two Raiders to find the field in an NFL contest, with Thurman last appearing in 2005.
