No. 21 Davenport Downs No. 11 Martin Methodist, 3-0

PULASKI, Tenn. – For the second time in three matches, the 21-ranked Davenport women's soccer team shocked a Top 15 team as three goals recorded in the first half was more than enough for the Panthers to upset No. 12 Martin Methodist 3-0 Wednesday afternoon.
Mackenzie VanDerWarf and Lizzie Paul both net their first goals of the season in the first half but an own goal was the eventual match-winner.
Along with picking up her second shutout of the season, DU goalkeeper Michelle Marcus collected her 19th career win to become the program's all-time leader. In her second season with Davenport, the junior goalkeeper is 19-4-1.
The Redhawks made a costly mistake in the 12th minute. With Shameeka Fishley and Karli Harris inside the goal box looking to knock in the first goal of the match, the Redhawks defense tried to clear the loose ball but it rolled under keeper Jhani Williams and into the net for an own goal.
In the 20th minute Abbey Tyson delivered a cross to the front of the penalty box where VanDerWarf timed it perfectly to head in the insurance goal. With less than five minutes left before intermission, Paul's blast from about 30 yards hit the crossbar and landed right on the goal line.
Davenport has three NAIA Top 25 opponents on the road to start the season. The Panthers downed last year's NAIA Tournament semifinalist and currently third-ranked Spring Arbor 4-0 a week ago but suffered a 3-0 defeat at the defending national champion Lindsey Wilson last Monday.
The Panthers have reached the halfway point in their season-opening six-match road trip. They will travel to the campus of the University of Rio Grande next week to participate in the Marge Evans Classic. Davenport will face Mount Vernon Nazarene University (Ohio) Sept. 6 at 4 p.m. and will follow with the host RedStorm the next day at 5 p.m.
