SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – No. 1 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) women's soccer beat host and third-ranked Spring Arbor (Mich.) 5-2 on Saturday night in the NAIA Game of the Week.
The Blue Raiders remain unbeaten with the win behind two goals from Renee Hurd.
The Cougars took an early 1-0 lead on a Samantha Sturgeon goal, assisted by Karly Linton at the four-minute mark.
The Blue Raiders (2-0) responded in the 19th minute on an unassisted goal by Hurd to make it 1-1. Katarina Simic scored six minutes later to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-1 lead. Simic finished the game with a goal and an assist.
The Cougars (1-2) missed an opportunity to tie the match in the 40th minute as a penalty kick sailed wide.
Hurd added to the Blue Raider lead with her second goal of the night in the 45th minute to make it 3-1 heading into the half.
Spring Arbor made a change in net to start the second half as Sarah Yancer took over for starter Kelly Reska to finish the game.
Jamie Stanton, on an assist by Simic, beat Yancer in the 54th minute to push the lead to 4-1. Spring Arbor responded less than a minute later with a goal by Becca Lynn to cut it back to a two-goal lead.
Carola Schneider notched her first goal of the season in the 76th minute to give the Blue Raiders a commanding 5-2 lead.
Johanna Henrikson made two saves on four shots to keep Lindsey Wilson perfect on the season.
The Blue Raiders finished the game with 10 shots on net while Spring Arbor recorded four shots.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 6, as the Blue Raiders travel to No. 14 William Carey (Miss.) University.
