MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Katie Bright has been hired as the assistant commissioner of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC), commissioner Mike Hall announced Thursday. Bright joins the SSAC staff after spending the past year at WSFA News 12, where she served as a producer.

Bright brings to the position a wealth of experience in sports media, having also worked in radio for the Auburn ISP Sports Network as a play-by-play announcer and production assistant, and at WACV-AM1170 as an on-air producer. Her professional background in communications and the various skill sets accompanying it are assets Hall believes will serve the conference well.

“We’re very excited to Katie join our staff in Montgomery, and we believe she will be a tremendous addition in Montgomery working with our conference championships and promoting the successes of our schools, teams and student-athletes, “ Hall said. “She comes highly recommended and her background in sports, communications, broadcasting and media relations can help us take our league to a new level of success.”

The SSAC is comprised of 16 NAIA institutions from the states of Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, South Carolina and Louisiana. The conference sponsors 16 sports, with many of its championships held in Montgomery, where Bright will be stationed.

“I am honored by this opportunity to join the staff at the SSAC, and my acceptance comes with both gratitude and excitement,” she said. “I look forward to working with the powerful universities in this conference and will do everything I can to assist in its continuing growth.”
