NAIA Mourns the Passing of Avid Supporter
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Betty Farmer, an avid basketball fan who attended 67-straight Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship tournaments, passed away Sept. 13 at the age of 89 years. The native of Kansas City, Mo., watched over 2,000 basketball games and only missed one game during the 67-year stretch.
She is survived by her husband, W.D. "Buck" Farmer. Buck joined Betty at all of those basketball games watching on the north side of Municipal Auditorium. Betty and Buck created a room in their house dedicated to their archives from the NAIA national championship tournament. In 2011, which marked the 65th-year of attendance, Buck and Betty tossed the ceremonial jump ball to begin the event.
The NAIA is grateful for her tremendous support. Memorials on her behalf can be made to the American Cancer Society.
