LA GRANDE, Ore. – For the second consecutive week, the Eastern Oregon Football team defeated a Top 25 team, as the Mountaineers defeated No. 21 Montana Western, 20-0. This is the Mountaineers first shutout since Oct. 27, 2012.

For the second-straight game, senior running back Chris McGinnis-Parker led the way for the Mountaineers. McGinnis-Parker rushed for 182 yards on 27 carries. This is his second-straight week of rushing for over 180 yards.

The Mountaineers broke onto the scoreboard in the middle of the first quarter. Eastern Oregon moved the ball from their own 34-yard line to Montana Western's 19-yard line in four plays. However, the Mountaineers drive stalled and EOU settled for a field goal attempt. Marc David put EOU on the board by making a 32-yard field goal and EOU led 3-0.

EOU would take the, 3-0, lead into the second quarter. On the Mountaineers first drive of the quarter, TJ Esekielu came in to play quarterback and on his first rushing attempt of the game he went for 40-yard touchdown run to extend the Mountaineers lead to 10-0.

After the Eastern Oregon's defense stopped the Bulldogs on the next four plays, EOU continued to march the ball down the field. EOU went 50 yards on 13 plays. Eastern Oregon's drive stalled and David hit his second field goal of the day, from 25 yards out, to give EOU a 13-0 lead.

Montana Western drove the ball down to the Mountaineers 8-yard line and lined up for a field goal. Matt Gayman then blocked the 25-yard field goal attempt to keep Eastern Oregon on top 13-0. EOU would take the 13-0 lead into halftime.

The Mountaineers continued to stop the Bulldogs offense. Gary Posten led the EOU defense with 11 tackles (8 solo, 3 assist). The Mountaineers defense shut down the Frontier Conference leading rusher Sam Rutherford the entire game. Rutherford, who came into the contest averaging 162.5 yards per game, was held to 89 rushing yards in the contest. The defense held the Bulldogs to 4-of-17 on third downs.

After a Montana Western punt, the Mountaineers took the ball 80 yards on 6 plays to add to the lead. Dominique Blackman found Justin Hernandez for a 25-yard touchdown pass to put the Mountaineers on top, 20-0.

Eastern Oregon outgained the Bulldogs, 453-325, in total yards.

EOU has a bye next week but returns to action on Oct. 19 when they travel to Billings, Mont., to face Rocky Mountain (Mont.). Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. MT.
