DES MOINES, Iowa -- 19th-ranked Grand View (Iowa) and 10th-ranked Park (Mo.) faced off on the NAIA Match of the Week at the Grand View Tournament Saturday afternoon. Park came into the match riding a 15-match win streak and 26-2 overall record, but Grand View was victorious 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-16).
The Pirates jumped out to a 1-0 set lead (25-19). However, Grand View rallied from behind twice to win sets two and three (25-21, 25-23) to take a 2-1 lead. In set four, the match was tied at 13-all before Grand View stormed to the finish, outscoring Park 12-3 down the stretch.
“This is a great win for our team and our program. Park presented a huge challenge for us because they're such a physical team with so many talented players. Our girls rose to the challenge and in the end; I'm incredibly proud of this accomplishment and finishing the weekend on a high note,” said Grand View head Coach Tina Carter.
“We used multiple lineups so this was a true team win. We had great contributions from everyone and our defense in the 4th set was what sealed the win for us.”
Grand View outside hitter Kadie Subbert (Stanton, Iowa) led the Vikings with 19 kills. The junior hit .425 for the match. Freshman opposite Taylor Wells (Des Moines, Iowa) was also a force offensively for the Vikings, finishing with 10 kills in 18 attempts (.556).
Freshman setter Chrissy Daggett (Madison, Wis.) recorded a match-high 50 assists. Sophomore libero Kelly Nakandakari (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the GV defense with 14 digs.
Park’s Wanessa Siqueira tallied a game-high 26 kills. Lauren Purdy added 18 kills for the Pirates.
Grand View moves to 23-12 on the year.
