KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Texas at Brownsville is rewarded for knocking off the former top-ranked team as the Ocelots are the new No. 1 in the seventh regular-season edition of the 2013 Tachikara-NAIA Volleyball Coaches' Top 25 poll, the national office announced Tuesday. For the previous 11 polls, Concordia (Calif.) was the No. 1 team, but Texas at Brownsville swept the Eagles, 3-0, on Oct. 19 in Brownsville, Texas.

The top billing is the first for the Ocelots since Oct. 23, 2012, which was the last of 10-consecutive No. 1 rankings. With a perfect 21-0 record this year, the member of the Red River Athletic Conference is one of two NAIA programs still undefeated. Texas at Brownsville, who collected 23 first-place votes and 653 points, will participate in the Boneyard Brawl hosted by Georgetown (Ky.) this weekend. Two of the four opponents are ranked in the top 10 -- No. 9 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) and No. 10 Embry-Riddle (Fla.).

With the loss last weekend, Concordia falls to the No. 2 spot with 632 total points. That setback snapped the Eagles 55-match win streak, which was the third longest in NAIA history. Concordia still leads the Golden State Athletic Conference standings with a 7-0 league mark, which is a one-game lead over No. 3 Biola (Calif.).

Biola captured 611 points to hold at No. 3 for the sixth-consecutive week. The Eagles now own 22-consecutive top-five positions.

No. 4 Madonna (Mich.) is the other undefeated team in the NAIA at 32-0. The Crusaders posted 590 total points this week and have now been in the No. 4 slot for the past six weeks.

Locked in at No. 5 for the third-straight week, Northwestern (Iowa) collected 562 points. The Red Raiders, who are 26-1 on the season, are 10-0 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and own a 1.5-game lead over Hastings (Neb.).

Three teams improved two positions, which marked the best jump upward:  No. 9 Lindsey Wilson, No. 10 Embry-Riddle and No. 11 The Master's (Calif.).

No. 25 Montana State-Northern vaults into the Top 25 for the first time in school history. The Lights are 19-4 on the season and are riding a 12-match win streak heading into a contest with Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) on Friday.

Also holding a spot as a newcomer is No. 24 Cal State San Marcos. The Cougars hold their fourth overall ranking this year, peaking at No. 20 in the Preseason Top 25.

Georgetown (Ky.) (No. 24) and Missouri Baptist (No. 25) both dropped out this week. Georgetown has its 17-week streak snapped of consecutive rankings.

Fourteen of 23 conferences are represented throughout the Top 25, led by the Golden State Athletic Conference with five ranked teams, Concordia, Biola, The Master's, No. 15 Vanguard (Calif.) and No. 16 Westmont (Calif.). The Great Plains Athletic Conference and Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference each land three programs in the poll.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences and independents. The eighth regular-season Top 25 will be announced Oct. 29.
