WICHITA, Kan. – The No. 9 Braves defeated No. 16 Friends University (Kan.) on Saturday afternoon at Adair Austin Stadium, 38-28 in the NAIA Game of the Week.
Ottawa (Kan.) struck first, taking a 6-0 lead over Friends in the first quarter. The Braves would outscore Friends 15-7 in the second quarter to take a 21-7 lead into the half.
Neither team scored in the third quarter and OU continued to hold its 21-7 lead. In the fourth quarter the offenses opened up with Friends outscoring the Braves 21-17. The OU defense was able to come up with stops down the stretch and the Braves took the 38-28 victory.
The Falcons led in first downs (26-17), yardage (478-368), and went 11-of-17 in third down conversion. The Braves had 137 yards through the air compared to Friends' 56 and forced five Falcon turnovers.
Luke Lundy had 164 yards rushing with four touchdowns, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. Michael Behr went 6-for-15 through the air for 137 yards and one touchdown. Joshua Stangby led the Braves in receiving with four receptions for 60 yards and one touchdown.
Deron Bruce led the defense with eight tackles with one for loss. He also had two fumble recoveries for 60 yards and two forced fumbles. Erik Brown, Tim Farris, and Weston Coomes all had interceptions for the Braves.
Up next for OU (8-2, 7-1) is Tabor College in the last game of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 16. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Peoples Bank Field. OU will honor its seniors before the contest.
