No. 18 Oklahoma City Topples No. 17 Missouri Baptist

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University toppled Missouri Baptist 25-10 Wednesday at Abe Lemons Arena in a matchup of two top-20 squads in NAIA wrestling.

The Stars, ranked No. 18 in the NAIA, won seven of the 10 matches and cruised to the 25-10 victory over No. 17 Missouri Baptist. OCU is now 2-1 in duals this season.

Freshman Adrian Gaines gave OCU an early seven-point lead when he pinned Demarcus Gurrly in 6:53 at 125 pounds. Missouri Baptist was assessed an unsportsmanlike penalty and docked one team point after the match.

After a loss at 133, freshman James Landoll posted a 15-2 major decision over Jerry Kennedy at 141 to stretch the OCU lead to 10-4.

Freshman Ricky McCarty won 7-5 over Espen Conley at 149 and senior Hunter Muskrat won 8-2 over Matt Behr at 157 to increase the Stars’ advantage to 16-4.

At 165, sophomore Zach Skates defeated Cameron Ream 5-2. Junior Jared Bass followed with a 6-4 decision over Ryan Thomas to give OCU a 22-4 lead.
Missouri Baptist picked up wins at 184 and 285, but junior Cody Sivertsen notched an 8-4 decision over Lucas Keene at 197 and the Stars took the dual 25-10.

OCU will return to action against Central Baptist (Ark.) at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 at Abe Lemons Arena.
