KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Ryak Finch of Grand View (Iowa) has been named the NAIA National Wrestler of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Finch was selected based on his performances from Jan. 20 – 26 and was chosen out of a pool of nominees from the four Qualifying Groups.
Finch, a junior from Reading, Ariz., compiled a 5-0 record during the week, including three victories against NCAA Division I opponents. In the Vikings Jan. 23 dual against NCAA Division II No. 19 Maryville (Mo.), Finch tallied four of Grand View’s 33 points with a major decision (14-4) victory against Brandon Oshiro. The 125-pounder continued his stellar week on Jan. 25 at the Grand View Open, with a pair of technical falls against Drake Swarm of NCAA Division I Iowa State and Phil Lauk of NCAA Division I Iowa, and a pin of Dakota Leach of NCAA Division I Southern Illinois Edwardsville. He also was credited with a win by forfeit at the event.
On the season, Finch, who is the top-ranked 125-pound wrestler in the NAIA, owns a 20-0 record.
